A second dog warden has been recruited by Waterford City and County Council.

This was confirmed after Sinn Féin Councillor Conor McGuinness raised the matter at the most recent Dungarvan Lismore district meeting.

The new appointee will be Dungarvan based.

Waterford Council's SEO Dawn Wallace, says further allocations may be made in the future.

"We have recruited a second dog warden who's due to start in mid-October and they will be Dungarvan based. Although their role crosses into the city."

"We are advised the Department has plans to make further allocations for more dog wardens but we're still waiting to hear about that. Until that time we're two strong in numbers."

Waterford City and County Council employ dog wardens to carry out its obligations under the Control of Dogs Act, 1986.
