Cllr. Seanie Power (Fine Gael) has been elected as Cathaoirleach of the Comeragh District of Waterford City & County Council.
Cllr. Power was elected unopposed at today's AGM which took place at the Civic Offices in Dungarvan, and Cllr. John O'Leary (Fianna Fail) will serve as District Leas-Cathaoirleach.
Both terms will come to an end in 2024, when local elections take place in June.
Well wishes were plenty toward outgoing Cathaoirleach Cllr. Liam Brazil (Fine Gael) who oversaw a number of important milestones in the past year - such as the opening of the Mahon Falls Car Park, the re-opening of the newly-renovated Mount Congreve Gardens and the establishment of the Kilmeaden Greenway link.
Cllr. Power spoke of his honour to take up the role of Cathaoirleach, having been first elected in 2014.
He thanked his wife Nora, his children, grandchildren, immediate family, friends, fellow councillors and his constituents for affording him this opportunity.
"We're all fighting for the betterment of our Comeragh District", said Cllr. Power.
"I'm really delighted to be in the chair again, it's a great honour and privilege as it is for anyone to chair their electoral district. We're looking forward to the year ahead. A lot of things have happened in the past twelve months that have been to the betterment of Waterford City and County, particularly in the Comeragh District. We've made great strides, and tourism in the area has become really good - so long may that continue."
