National Broadband Ireland is currently carrying out its fibre roll-out across Waterford.
In order to facilitate that work part of the Greenhill/ Kilmoyemoge road in the Kilmedean area will be closed until this coming Tuesday (October 18th).
Roy Coughlan, Network Delivery Manager with NBI, says while they work with overhead infrastructure provided by Eir or underground duct work, sometimes there are gaps to fill, hence the road closure.
"The only option was for us to dig between two existing pieces of infrastructure," he told WLR News, "The road-up license had been applied for and conditions for and conditions of the licence would have been that it was a road closure, given the narrowness of that road.
"Essentially, we are installing a four-inch duct pipe in the road between two existing Eir poles, so we can feed a number of remote premises beyond that point."
Continuing, Mr Coughlan said that the roll-out across Waterford in general is progressing well.
"We're probably almost 50% what we would call 'homes passed' - that is infrastructure passing all homes that we're aiming for.
"We should have achieved the 57% mark by about mid-November I'd say.
"So, it's progressing well and we're looking at completion by mid-to-late-February 2023."

In terms of the road closure locally, those looking for an alternate route for the L8022 Greenhill / Kilmoyemoge Road are being diverted via the L4026 High Road and R680 and the N25.
