A man’s body has been recovered from the River Barrow - following a search-and-rescue operation involving Waterford-based rescue helicopter, Rescue 117.
Emergency services were alerted to a man having entered the river at North Quay beside O’Hanrahan Bridge at around 2 p.m. Gardaí arrived at the scene and New Ross River Search & Rescue began searching the river.
After 20 minutes, Rescue 117 then arrived and joined the search for the man – whose remains had reportedly drifted upstream towards the Dunbrody Famine ship.
Shortly before 2.50pm, the man was taken from the water by New Ross River Search & Rescue volunteers and his remains were brought to New Ross Boat Club.
