Rising costs continue to impact the hospitality industry locally.
That's according to Jim Flash Gordon, owner of Oscars and Revolution bars in Waterford city.
However, speaking to WLR News, Mr. Gordon says the weekends fare well in the trade despite the cost of living crisis.
"Students are back and seem to be out in force. Weekends are great," he said.
Competition is evident between food establishments in Waterford and Mr. Gordon says people need more of a push to go on a night out in the current economy.
"You need an excuse to go out these days. It's not just going for a beer anymore. I know around the apple market all the food establishments are doing quite well. The prices are very competitive. It's as easy now to go out for food at the same price as getting a takeaway on JustEat."
The lack of a long lasting summer has had its affect on the industry.
"I had huge outside area seats. 60, 70 people, it was full three times this summer. That was it. It is what it is, we can't change the weather."
