Registration remains open as 3,500 expected to take to the streets in Solas sea of orange

Registrations for the 16th annual Solas Run and Walk for Life are currently sitting at 3,400 participants.

With registrations still open ahead of this weekend's event in Dungarvan and Waterford City, this year's figures look set to break all previous records.

On Saturday October 12th in Dungarvan, the 10km Run and Walk begins at 10am in Walton Park at the entrance to the Greenway.

The following day, Sunday October 13th, the 10km and the 4km route both begin from George's Street in Waterford City.

No road closures are in place, however some delays to road users are to be expected, with traffic down to one lane in places for the duration of the run in the city.

As proud media partners, WLR will be broadcasting live from Walton Park on Saturday.

John Keane will get runners and walkers warmed up with great tunes and his usual witty banter.

The WLR Street Team will also be out and about taking photos of the day and capturing some of the amazing atmosphere from Dungarvan.

John Keane returns to events on Sunday in Waterford City on Gladstone Street, getting all participants warmed up before the 10am start.

Mayor of Waterford City and County, Cllr Jason Murphy will give the official countdown before the action gets underway.

The first male and female runners participants home will be interviewed by John Keane.

All elite and professional runners are asked to arrive early to enable them to start close to the starting line.

T-shirt stock is extremely limited at present, however, those who register from now ahead of the event, it is an option to wear a t-shirt from a previous year's event.

Proceeds from both events will form part of the huge fundraising efforts annually to keep the Solas Cancer Support Centre operating.

With running costs annually reaching €1,000,000, funds raised allow the therapies and supports to remain free for service users.
