A record-breaking €16,310 has been raised at this morning's Farmview Auction.

It brings the total brought in so far for this year's WLR Christmas Appeal to over €99,300.

All the money raised will go to the St Vincent de Paul society in Waterford.

Declan Prendergast and Tom Power were on phone duty for this morning's auction, which was presented by Seán Organ and Kieran O'Connor.

Kieran says the support has been incredible: "Unbelievable really! We knew we had a nice lot of items put together between farming, agri, and non-farming and agri but my God, €16,000 has blown us away.

"Last year I think were at €8,500 but €16,000 is almost double that and it's absolutely fantastic.

"We had good items but the support from the general public has been absolutely fantastic."

All involved this morning were taken aback by the level of support people were willing to show to this worthy cause.

The Farmview Auction has now been running for 20 years and the generosity of the public has only grown in that time.

"I want to thank all my colleagues in Tírlán for their support and all the businesses," Kieran continued.

"Everyone I approached about putting an item in came on board.

"But the support we got on the phones today - and to Tom and Declan, they've been really fantastic. They're two busy young men.

"... From 8am to 10am we were on and the phones were hopping the whole time and €16,310 was raised.

"And what I love about this is that it's going to the needy across the county - every conference in the county is going to benefit from this.

"So, thanks to everyone out there."

Anyone who purchased an item at the Farmview auction can collect it at Country Life Dungarvan or Kilmeaden between now and Wednesday.
