A public meeting is taking place tonight (Tuesday) with the aim of creating a Community Garden in Kilmeaden.

The meeting is being held in Ballyduff Community Centre at 7.30pm to discuss the project for a piece of Council owned land by the Greenway.

Local resident Peter Jacob says the idea formed during lockdown when he noted the potential of the land.

"I was walking the Greenway the same as everyone else," he explains.

"Every evening I would look at this piece of ground and I could imagine it being a community garden. It's perfectly located, railed in, with a pathway beside it and it's close to the Waterford & Suir Valley Railway. I thought it was an absolute no brainer."

Peter Jacob outlines the potential benefits of such a project.

"You get the community together, involving everybody," he says.

"People would be able to show their particular talents. Young kids could paint stones, play with bug hotels, and elderly people would bring their own experiences. It would be somewhere people could get together."

Peter outlines what they hope to achieve through the public meeting.

"The idea is to tell people about the plan, explain what the thinking behind it is, see if there is an appetite or interest and if it's possible to get a committee together. Then we can start the ball rolling with regard to getting the land signed over."
