Public access to Tramore's Metalman to be investigated

Obtaining public access to Tramore's Metalman is to be a priority for the town within the next two years.

That's according to chairperson of Tramore Development Trust, Denis Leamy.

Access is currently prohibited as the landmark stands on private property.

However, Denis told WLR News that obtaining access on the grounds of increasing tourism offerings is a priority over the next two years.

He said, " We are marking 200 years of the Metalman and it's a really important one to mark. We want to bring attention to the Metalman, it's one of our main aims to enhance amenities across Tramore, hopefully over the next couple of years, there will be a way of getting access to the Metalman for the people of Tramore."

His comments come as part of a process called 'Place Standard' whereby Tramore will be assessed in terms of its offering to people of all ages.

Last Saturday, a light installation of the Metalman was unveiled as part of the Christmas lights at the Coastguard Cultural Centre.
