Planning permission for a museum in Ardmore has been refused.
The application was submitted on the 15th of March this year.
Permission was being sought for the museum building at Duffcarrick, Ardmore, with just under 2,700 square metres of ground floor exhibition space.
It was submitted by 'Ardmore Institute of Art Edward J. McAree & Amanda Garcia', and also included a 134 square metre service area at first floor level.
It was proposed that 25 people could be employed at the museum.
However, the application was refused in recent days with the council citing five areas of concern.
They included that the proposed development would seriously detract from the visual and residential amenities on an important approach to the village.
While traffic concerns were highlighted as being a potential issue if another access route to the site was created.
Planners also felt that that the applicants hadn't proved that the location and scale of the development would not impact negatively on neighbouring residential amenities.
The applicants now have just under four weeks to appeal this decision to An Bord Pleanála.
