Planning permission for a re-development of Walsh Park which will cost between six to seven million euro, has been granted to the Waterford county GAA Board,
with some conditions.
The refurb will increase capacity from 11,500 to 15,500,
The planning go ahead by Waterford Council will see the main stand completely refurbished, with the existing wooden benches removed and bucket seating installed.
The plans include an covered terrace at the Keane’s Road end and a uncovered seating opposite the main stand.
At the city end, new dressing-rooms and the Waterford GAA offices will be built with limited parking spaces.
The Waterford County Board say the development would take about a year to complete. They continue to meet with residents to address any concerns they may have.
Executive officer, Councillor John O'Leary says he believes this expansion will meet the needs for Munster Championship games in Waterford.
