A pedestrian sustained serious injuries after being hit by a vehicle in Waterford last night.

It happened at about 7.30 at the Cork Road entrance to Waterford Retail Park.

The man in his 50s was removed to hospital with serious injuries and that stretch of the Cork Road from the Butlerstown Roundabout remains closed for a technical exam.

Diversions are in place and Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dash-cam footage of the incident to contact them on 051 305 300.

A technical exam of the scene has now taken place and the road has reopened.
