Fine Gael Councillor Pat Nugent has been elected as Cathaoirleach of the Dungarvan / Lismore District of Waterford City and County Council.
He was elected uncontested at the June meeting of the District, and will chair the District up until next year's local elections.
Cllr. Nugent was nominated by Cllr. Damien Geoghegan and seconded by Fianna Fáil Councillor Tom Cronin, and a large number of his family were present in the gallery.
"It is a privilege to be able to serve the people from Youghal Bridge to near Lemybrien and from Ballyduff Upper to Old Parish. The coming year is a very important for our area as
large infrastructure projects will be down for debate and discussion, such as the Mallow to Dungarvan greenway and Cork to Waterford pathway project."
"Dungarvan is the envy of most towns in Ireland, but we must strive to make it even better", he said.
He thanked his wife Eileen, family, friends and fellow councillors and Executive.
The elections of District Cathaoirleachs and the County Mayors will take place later this month.
