A passenger has died on a train from Waterford to Dublin today.
The man was onboard the 7.50am service when he became seriously ill.
The train was stopped for a number of hours near Mullinavat while he was being treated by paramedics, before it returned to Waterford station.
"A very sad and tragic situation occurred onboard the 07:50 from Waterford to Heuston," Irish Rail spokesperson, Barry Kenny, has told WLR News.
"Shortly after it departed, a customer did experience a medical emergency and despite the help of staff and customers onboard and the rapid response of ambulance crew that met the train on route, sadly it was confirmed that he passed away."
Passengers still looking to go to Dublin have since been accommodated on the 11am service.
"The train returned to Waterford station and obviously assistance was provided for customers onboard," Mr Kenny continued.
"It was a really distressing experience for everybody so, while it won't affect services later today, it was of course a very upsetting situation for everyone.
"Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased."
