Pass rate for Waterford driving test centre is the lowest in over 14 years

Are drivers in Waterford getting worse? Or is the driving test becoming more difficult?

Those are the questions being posed as the Road Safety Authority's 2022 figures for the driving test pass rates have been published.

Waterford Test Centre had a pass rate of just 50.7% last year, which is the lowest since at least before 2008, as that's the first year the figures were published on the RSA's website.

It represents an almost 3% drop on 2021, when the pass rate for the local centre was 54.5% and a 5% drop on 2020's 56.5% rate.

Waterford is now also below the national average pass rate, which stood at 53% for 2022.

Ballincollig in Cork had a success rate of 75% - the highest in the country - and the lowest was in a centre in Mulhuddart in Dublin, at 38%.

Waterford driving instructor, Richie Roberts, recently told WLR's Déise Today that believes that misleading information or people not reading enough information ahead of their driving test is largely to blame.

He also said some people are advised by their driving instructor that they are not ready to take their test, but go ahead regardless.
