Parking in Lismore at busy times has been described as 'lethal'. That's according to Labour Councillor John Pratt who was speaking at the July Dungarvan/Lismore District meeting.
He called for Waterford Council to look at improving the current situation.
"With the events on there, it's becoming dangerous. Even on a Sunday with the market, you can see the cars are parked where they should not be.
"It's lethal, and unless a space or some sort is found I think it will end badly. People are rightly or wrongly parking there, and I would ask that we look at it."
In response, Senior Roads Engineer Gabriel Hynes outlined the current parking situation in the town.
"We have an agreement with the GAA to use their car park which is located central to Lismore. We have carried out lining there in the last couple of weeks, so that car park is available to all.
"We are also in discussion with the hotel for securing space there. We have our own public car park beside the playground. Significant parking is available in Lismore."
Gabriel continued saying that funding would not be provided for additional spaces in the town.
"We don't have capital funding to provide an additional car park in Lismore. I am of the view that we have enough space in the town. People should be conscious that those car parks are there, and they shouldn't be parking on the public road where it is endangering vehicles and pedestrians."
