A number of Waterford buildings will be lit up this evening to mark Purple Day, which is Epilepsy Ireland's biggest fundraising day of the year.

As part of the day, volunteers will host events in their local communities to help raise the funds required to continue their journey towards a society where no person's life is limited by epilepsy.

Internationally, Purple Day is a grassroots campaign that was founded by a Canadian woman, Cassidy Megan.

People around the world wear purple in the name of epilepsy awareness and well-known buildings across the globe also light up purple in recognition of the estimated 50 million people living with epilepsy.

In Waterford, the City Hall, Theatre Royal, and 35 The Mall will all be lit up.
