Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered his military command to put nuclear deterrence forces on high alert.

He says he is doing it following statements and financial actions made by NATO countries.

Ukraine and Russia are to meet without pre-conditions on the Ukrainian / Belarusian border near the Pripyat River.

Kyiv's described last night's attacks around the city as "brutal", with the Ukrainian government reporting that over 210 people have been killed so far.

It's also estimated that more than 1,100 people have been injured since the start of the invasion.

Ukraine has filed a UN lawsuit against Russia, saying it must be "held accountable" for its actions.

Protests and Irish Aid

Protests are taking place around the world over the situation in Ukraine, with over 100-thousand people gathering in the German city of Berlin.

This morning, a peaceful protest took place in Waterford that included members of the Ukrainian community living here, and many others who turned out to show solidarity.

The group of protesters moved from John Roberts Square to the Quay, near the Millenium Plaza.

€750,000 was donated to the Irish Red Cross by the Irish public within 24 hours of an appeal to help the people of Ukraine.

Donations made on its website or through Revolut will support the work of the international organisation in Ukraine and its surrounding countries.
