A new shared care house for children with intellectual disabilities is set to open just outside Waterford City.

It'll be run by Resilience Healthcare, who are based in Carrigeen, near Mooncoin.

The facility is set to open in June but a recruitment day is being held today at the Tower Hotel until 7pm this evening.

Emma Daly is service manager with Resilience, she explains the recruitment campaign.

"We are looking today to recruit support workers for our new service, anyone with a qualification in health and social care, early childhood care, maybe special needs education, pre-nursing studies."

She said Resilience Healthcare are also running a re-train campaign for those with no formal qualifications but who have an interest in the area. They will then receive on-the-job training in their chosen field while working in the centre.
