The National Transport Authority has confirmed this afternoon that it will provide a bus service for the Dunmore East, Portlaw, and Passage East areas.

It follows the decision of Suirway Bus to cease operating their service at the end of this month.

An emergency replacement service will be provided from November 1st.

Minister for Mental Health & Older People, Waterford TD Mary Butler received the news this afternoon.

“The potential gap in services following Suirway’s recent announcement was a major cause of concern for the people of Portlaw, Dunmore East and Passage East. I am encouraged that the NTA have engaged with me on this matter and immediately recognised the importance of service provision for the people of these communities," she said.

Many people use the service. From school goers to older people travelling into the city, up to 15,000 people would have been affected had there been a complete loss of services.
