Irishmen and Irishwomen who died in past wars or on service with the United Nations, are being remembered at a number of special events around the country today for the National Day of Commemoration.
In Waterford, a ceremony will take place from 11 o'clock in the Cathedral Square, next to the John Condron Memorial.
Local politicians, the Defence Forces, religious representatives, and members of the emergency services will all be part of the event.
The main ceremony will be held in The National Museum of Ireland in Collins Barracks in Dublin this morning.
President Michael D Higgins and Taoiseach Micheal Martin will attend.
Ex-servicemen's organisations, as well as relatives of the 1916 leaders, have also been invited.
