A narrative verdict has been recorded by Cork City Coroner in the death of a young man who died 5 days after getting a Covid-19 vaccine.
23-year-old Roy Butler from Waterford died of a catastrophic brain bleed at Cork University Hospital on the 17th of August 2021.
Delivering his verdict today Coroner Philp Comyn said the cause of death was a spontaneous intracerebral haemorrhage and on the "balance of probabilities" he could not conclude it was caused by the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
He recommended the Department of Health consider the need for an information campaign to inform the public to report adverse reactions to vaccines.
He added that Assistant State Pathologist Dr. Margot Bolster's statement, "I can neither rule in any link with the vaccine, nor can I rule it out," effectively summed up the majority of the medical data.
Leading figures at Johnson & Johnson, the company that created the Janssen vaccine, maintained that there was no scientific proof connecting their vaccine to Mr. Butler's death.
At a recent inquest into his death, Mr. Butler's family characterised him as a young man who was athletic, fit, and healthy.
He was a gifted football player who worked out four times a week.
In a statement following the verdict, Mr. Butler's family said they would now take time to reflect on the verdict and the coroner's recommendations.
