Dungarvan Hillwalking Club staged four separate walks of varying lengths across the Comeraghs yesterday.
The Comeragh Challenge, Comeragh Crossing, Nire Valley, and Kilbrien Walk all took place.
Speaking to WLR News, club member Ray Moloney outlined what the walks are all about.
"The Comeragh Crossing would have started back in 1996 as a memorial walk in memory of George Harney who was a member of Dungarvan Hill Walking Club in its infancy.
"He was very much instrumental in planning routes for club walks at that time. Unfortunately, George died at a young age, and in 1996 the club decided to hold a walk in his memory and raise funds for local charities. That walk was the first walk from Clonmel to Dungarvan."
Over 180 participants took part in the walk on Saturday.
Ray continued," Today Dungarvan Hillwalking Club hosted our annual Comeragh crossing and challenge walks.
"We had the 45 KM challenge which had 35 walkers, the 35KM crossing which had 54 walkers, the 20 KM Nire Walk which had 63 walkers, and the 12KM Kilbrien walk which had 22.
"Walkers from all parts of Waterford supported the cause with clubs all over the region getting involved."
Ray Moloney continued, "The proceeds from today's event are being split between the Southeast Moutain Rescue, Waterford Hospice, and Dungarvan Lions Club.
"It really was a great day in the mountains. While the conditions were a bit blustery, it was dry and overcast with great views and it really did show off the Comeraghs at their best".
