More special needs assistants are on the way for schools in Waterford.
Minister of State John Halligan has announced an additional 11 SNAs will be made available for allocation in Waterford schools from September to December 2017.
This will bring the total number of Special Needs Assistants in Waterford to 325.
The Junior Minister also said that there would be additional special needs classes for pupils with Autism at Mount Sion and St Paul’s primary schools in the city and also Scoil Naomh Gobnait in Coolnasmear.
It's part of a national increase of 7.5% to meet the level of assessed demand.
When the posts are filled, there will be 13,990 SNAs in schools around the country.
Minister Halligan said the increase 'reflects the growing participation of children with special educational needs and will support their full participation and progression within the educational system'.
