The order to officially establish the South East Technological University has been signed.
Minister for Higher Education, Simon Harris has signed the order this morning to dissolve WIT and IT Carlow and create this new entity.
The 1st of May is the date that's been set for both institutes to begin life as the SETU.
In a tweet this morning, the minister described today as "a good day" and the "culmination of years of work" by those involved.
Minister Harris recently paid a visit to WIT where Dr Patrick Prendergast was announced as the university's first Governing Body chairperson.
Today, I signed the order to establish the South East Technological University from May 1st.
Today is the culmination of years of work by people across @waterfordit and @itcarlow.
