A Waterford Junior Minister of State has spoken of fears for her staff following a confrontation in her Dungarvan office by an anti-immigration protester.
The Sunday Times reports today that Minister Mary Butler is increasingly uncomfortable regarding the safety of her staff.
The newspaper reports that protester Derek Blighe filmed himself in Deputy Butler's Dungarvan office last month in relation to an alleged sexual assault of a woman in the town.
The Gardaí have since arrested and questioned a woman in relation to making a false report.
Minister Butler says the video footage of her office was uploaded to social media.
Gardaí were alerted following the arrival of the man to her Dungarvan office.
Speaking to the Sunday Times, she says: 'My staff were recorded and there were things put up on social media claiming that I was covering up an assault on a young girl."
Reflecting on her career, she says: 'I am responsible for the four people who work for me as well. And on this particular day, I had two of my staff working in the Dungarvan office. The two of them were female and both of them were nervous. And I feel responsible for that."
