An August heatwave appears to be on the way, as Met Éireann has issued an advisory for hot weather.

The forecaster says the country is set to experience a hot spell, particularly from Wednesday (August 10th) to Sunday next (14th).

Daytime temperatures will widely reach the mid- to high-twenties, remaining uncomfortably warm overnight as well.

They're encouraging people to be wary of heat stress - especially those more vulnerable.

There's also a risk of a High Solar UV index.

Anyone taking to the water is also being urged to make sure you do so in a safe manner, preferably where there are lifeguards.

In Waterford, there are five life-guarded beaches: Tramore, Dunmore East, Clonea, Bunmahon, and Ardmore.

The weather advisory is in effect from today (Sunday, 7th August) until midnight on this day week.
