The annual Mayor's Ball makes its return to Waterford in 2022 for the first time since 2019.
The event takes place at The Tower Hotel on Saturday May 7th, and funds raised on the night are given to local charities.
The official launch took place on Tuesday February 22nd in the Mayor's Parlour at City Hall, with Mayor of Waterford City and County Cllr Joe Kelly, and Metropolitan Mayor Cllr Seamus Ryan in attendance.
Also present were representatives from this year's benefitting charities, which are:
Solas Cancer Support Centre, Dungarvan Community Hospital, Sacred Heart Family Resource Centre, Waterford & South Kilkenny Branch Down Syndrome Ireland, Waterford Animal Welfare.
At the launch Mayor Kelly also announced that this year's sponsor is JP O'Donoghoe & Company Accountants.
Mayor of Waterford City and County, Cllr. Joe Kelly said
We are delighted to welcome so many groups here today and to announce the return of the ball. Cllr. Ryan and I are honoured to support such worthy causes and to give back to the people of Waterford that have lost so much in recent times.
He also went on to say that “This long-running event is when the people and businesses of Waterford really come together to donate unique prizes and bid most generously on the night to contribute to what has always been a phenomenal success.”
Mayor of Metropolitan District of Waterford Cllr Seamus Ryan added that “this eagerly awaited event will lift the spirits of those who attend while helping to give back to the local community and contribute to local charities. We’re looking forward to an evening of entertainment featuring some special guests, a charity auction, and music to enliven the people of Waterford all while giving back to those who need it most. I’d like to extend a special note of thanks to the Tower Hotel for holding the event and to Heineken for their continued support."
Organised by former Waterford City Councillor Cha O’ Neill for the last 18 years, since its inception the Mayors Ball has raised in excess of €1 million for local charities and all those funds raised stay in Waterford.
