Mayfield House in Portlaw is set to go under the hammer, for €300,000.

Once considered one of the finest mansions in the country, the site has lain vacant for almost thirty years - sitting empty since 1994.

According to the Irish Examiner, the asking price for the six-acre ten-bedroom lodge has dropped by €535,000 from the initial asking price, which was €835,000.

The mansion was designed by architect William Tinsley for the Malcomson family.

The house remains in the ownership of the Malcomson family, and it has previously served as the national headquarters for the Irish tannery industry.

The tannery and leather industry collapsed in 1985 and as a result, Mayfield House fell into dereliction.

The building was used as office spaces before being vacated for good in 1994.

Many of its original features were stripped for architectural salvage, and now all that remains of the once graundeur mansion is its' four walls.
