Stephen Kenny has been dealt another blow as Republic of Ireland internationals Matt Doherty and James McClean have tested positive for Covid-19.

Callum Robinson and Alan Browne have already left the squad following positive coronavirus tests.

Doherty and McClean have been isolated from the group as per Covid-19 protocols and the HSE has been informed.

The rest of the staff and squad tested negative ahead of the flight back to Dublin this morning before the UEFA Nations League match against Bulgaria on Wednesday.

Kenny's tough start continued yesterday as Ireland lost 1-0 to Wales in Cardiff following a David Brooks goal. Both Doherty and McClean played the full 90 minutes.

Jeff Hendrick will also be unavailable for the Bulgaria clash after he was sent off late on in yesterday's game.

Ireland will look to end a difficult Nations League campaign on a high with a victory against Bulgaria, who are also without a win in the tournament.

In total, 12 players named in the original squad will be unavailable, with Hendrick and Jayson Molumby both suspended.
