An investigation is underway after a man was discovered unconscious in Waterford City at the weekend.

At 1.40am, Gardaí on patrol were alerted to reports that a man had been assaulted on Manor Street.

Speaking on this week's Waterford Garda Watch, Garda Brian Quirke said witnesses are being sought to this incident.

"The man in his early 30s had swelling, bruising and a small cut to his right eye and some bleeding from his head," Garda Quirke told WLR.

"He was conveyed to University Hospital Waterford for treatment.

"Gardaí are asking for anyone who witnessed the attack or may have information relating to the attack to please contact Waterford Garda Station on 051 305300."

This is one of a number of incidents that were reported over the Halloween Bank Holiday weekend.

Meanwhile, another young man was seriously injured after an assault in Tallow, in the west of the county, yesterday.
