A local Councillor has called on Waterford City and County Council to put structures in place regarding the accessing of homelessness services.
Sinn Féin Councillor John Hearne spoke at the most recent plenary meeting of Waterford City and County Council.
He outlined his discussions with people accessing homelessness services.
"It is a very sensitive time of the year for people who are homeless. They said that when they do present, the people who do have an active bed in the hostel in town, that they go there every evening and they have a bed and they know the time and they know the structure and procedure," he said.
"But lately what's been happening is that people who have a part-time bed, go there and present there, and have to queue up in the weather to see if they have a place."
The Waterford City South Cllr then proceeded to ask the Council whether a structure could be put in place to avoid these incidences.
"We have some structure to either sit indoors or they're told earlier in the day or phone in to say if they have a place and be told earlier in the day if not where to go."
Cllr Hearne concluded by stating people deserve more.
"I think people looking at that and people with suitcases standing outside, waiting to see have they got a bed coming up to Christmas and I think people deserve the dignity of not having to do that."
