A local campaigner has made calls for a rainbow crossing to be installed in Waterford.
The pedestrian crossings are painted in colours of the rainbow in solidarity with members of the LGBTQ+ community, with Waterford remaining to be one of the only cities without one.
In an interview with WLR News, People Before Profit Campaigner Una Dunphy raised the issue saying it is not the first time it has been raised.
"When we brought it up a number of years ago, they were popping up in other cities," she said, "Waterford Council said there was a legal issue with it but every town and village in the country seems to have overcome those problems and within the council recently again we hear them talking about legal problems."
"It's something that is very inclusive and it is something that we should do because we are a city and we did see hate manifest itself with the burning of the rainbow [pride] flag a couple of years ago.
"We [should] put down a rainbow crossing to show solidarity."
In a statement to WLR, Waterford Council says such a pedestrian crossing could pose legal issues.
Una continued to say, "This is the third year that we are asking Waterford Council about [installing] a rainbow crossing and it is as important now as ever because what we have seen is attacks on people who are trans and LGBTQ and it comes in all sorts of forms.
"I am calling on Waterford Council to show some solidarity with our LGBTQ brothers and sisters in our community and to put a rainbow crossing in Waterford."
