The Irish Blood Transfusion Service (IBTS) is appealing to people in Waterford to attend their clinics this week.

They say that they are struggling to fill their appointments locally and the service is in great need of supplies.

In January the IBTS said that supply in some groups has frequently fallen to just three days' worth, while it normally tries to have seven days in stock at all times.

"Hospital demand continues to be high at all times," Julianne Kelly, Donor Services Manager has been telling WLR, "particularly over Bank Holiday weekends, and we have had a lot of Bank Holidays quite close together the last number of weeks.

"So, it's important that we maintain the blood supply so that we have what is needed by our hospitals."

There are two clinics running in the Waterford area this week:

Lawlors Hotel, Dungarvan – 3.45 pm- 8pm Wednesday 5th & Thursday 6th April - 3.45pm – 7.30pm
