Information evening taking place for Blue Economy businesses

An information evening on how businesses can apply for the Brexit Blue Economy Enterprise Development Scheme will take place in Waterford today.

It will be in The Viking Hotel from 6:30 to 8:30pm.

The scheme is designed to stimulate growth in rural coastal communities.

An overview of the scheme and a Q&A will take place.

Bord Iascaigh Mhara Regional Officer, Brenda O'Riordan,told WLR that if people wish to speak to her or her colleague following the event, that will also be made possible.

The meeting will hear about funding opportunities for businesses involved in the Blue Economy.

"The Blue Economy would be anything from boat building and repair services to coastal tourism, marine leisure and sport, sea food or renewable energy initiatives," Brenda said.

As well as those mentioned above, a business or sole trader that is within 10km of the coastline and wants to do an entrepreneurial activity, or something to generate revenue or save on overheads, can also apply for the scheme.

There is no need to register for tonight's meeting.
