Refusals for social homes in Waterford can be lowered according to a local councillor.

Cllr. Seamus Ryan raised the issue of Choice Based Letting refusals, and says people should be allowed to view the property before choosing the house.

The CBL scheme allows people on the housing list to bid on houses every Friday through Waterford City and County Councils website.

Speaking at a recent plenary sitting of Waterford City and County Council, the Labour Party councillor says people should be allowed to view where they are going to live.

"One of the reasons that people are refusing is because they're being asked to take a property without being able to see a property - and I think that's very wrong considering it is one of the most important decisions that any person will ever take."

"I'm not sure I would agree with that", responded Director of Housing with the local authority, Ivan Grimes. "We simply don't have the staffing resources to facilitate that - and I'm not aware of any other local authority that practices it."
