A 1930s-built cottage in Waterford has made the final of RTE's Home of the Year.
Owners Craig Dee and Matthew O'Rourke bought the property as a 'semi-derelict' cottage in 2018 and transformed the whole house.
They rebuilt the cottage section, originally from the 1930s, making it open plan, and then added a two-story black charred timber extension that connects to the cottage with a link corridor.
Inspired by the bones of the property, the couple rebuilt the cottage section whilst retaining the vernacular shape of the existing building.
The pair are particularly interested in Danish design and the retro Mad Men mid-century era. They favoured simplistic and clean lines in their home decor, and added pops of colour and natural greenery throughout their home.
Their family and friends admire the aesthetic of the home and the couple love the space they have created, and how it’s full of warmth and represents them.
Craig said: 'I know the home isn't for everyone but it's definitely for us. We feel very privileged to live in a home like this."
