An unannounced risk inspection took place in Parkside Residential Services in Kilmeaden last October.

The results of this inspection were published yesterday, January 15th.

HIQA found that the 4 resident capacity centre was operating CCTV without the consent of residents.

This CCTV was intended as a safeguarding approach, however it was found to contravene the Human Rights Committee's guidance on its use.

The report also found, that from a sample of incidents reviewed in the previous 6 months, five incidents met the threshold of alleged safeguarding concerns.

There was no evidence that the incidents had been investigated or reported.

In response to the report, the centre, which is run by the Brothers of Charity has agreed to review the use of CCTV with a view to removing entirely.

Additionally, the person in charge will now put in place an investigation into each incident, allegation, or suspicion of abuse.
