Over five thousand parking fines were issued in Dungarvan in 2022.
Figures released to Councillor Joe O'Riordan, show Dungarvan on it's own issued more fines than several counties across the country.
Several councillors raised concerns at the most recent Dungarvan/Lismore district meeting.
However, Councillor O'Riordan was vocal on his his view of the situation.
"To my knowledge, we have three wardens in Dungarvan, and Waterford City has six. There are two seasonal traffic wardens in Tramore. The population of Waterford City is 60,000, and the population of Dungarvan is 9,362. We rank 40th in the population centres of Ireland, yet we outstrip ten full counties.
"My question is, are the people of Dungarvan parking violation recidivists, or has Dungarvan become a cash cow, or is the level of scrutiny on the people of Dungarvan and surrounding areas beyond the levels required?
"We issued 5,141 tickets in the Dungarvan area, more than counties Carlow, Clare, Cavan, Galway County, Laois, Longford, Mayo, Monaghan, Offaly, and Sligo, and almost equal to the entire county of Tipperary, which contains several population centres far in excess of Dungarvan."
In response, senior executive with Waterford Council, Gabriel Hynes disagreed with councillors, saying the parking situation in Dungarvan is fair.
"I disagree 100% with your comments. From the parking point of view, we have half an hour of free car parking in Dungarvan.
"We have an hour and a half nearly free in other areas. So we have a very, very generous parking arrangement here in Dungarvan, and that's thanks to yourselves because they're your by-laws."
