The sign-off of extra staff at UHW's Cath Lab has been given the green light.
Minister for Mental Health and Older People, Mary Butler, confirmed today that Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly officially approved the allocation. It's hoped that 8 to 8 cardiac care 7 days a week will follow the allocation of the 19.5 posts at the cath lab.
Last week, Mary Butler confirmed the allocation, pending an official sign-off from Stephen Donnelly. Speaking earlier on Déise Today, Waterford TD Mary Butler says other areas have also received allocations.
"Yesterday afternoon Minister Donnelly confirmed that there were many parts of the pay and number strategy that he continues to work through. He has finalised the part relating to the staff at the UHW Cath Lab, and he signed it off. Recruitment can start immediately and is not affected by the moratorium."
While the allocation doesn't allow for full 24/7 care at UHW, It is anticipated that the additional staff will allow for 8 to 8 cardiac care seven days a week as promised by Mary Butler last week.

"The sign-off came yesterday", continued Minister Mary Butler," I know these processes take time, and it is frustrating for us all.
"It's been a team effort for the last 8 years with Oireachtas members, advocacy groups, the public and people power that has got us to this stage.
"It's another massive step forward."
