Granville Hotel wins 'historic' gold award in Prague

The Granville Hotel has been named 'Gold Award' winner  at the Historic Hotels of Europe awards in Chateau Liblice near Prague this week.

In the category of 'Historic Hotel City Award,' the historic hotel, run by the Cusack family, was named overall winner in the category.

Now in their 10th year, the awards recognise the most unique properties of cultural importance across Europe.

As part of the judging process, the public were invited to nominate their favourite hotels across 10 different categories.

Receiving a Silver award in the same category was Hotel Stefanie in Vienna, while the recipient of Bronze was Hotel Central in the Netherlands.

The Granville Hotel dates back to the 1700s and is one of Ireland's oldest hotels.

Other awards given on the night were Historic Romantic Hideaway Hotel, Historic Art of Hospitality Award, Historic Top Hotel Restaurant, Historic Eco-Hotel, Historic Wedding Venue, Historic Countryside Hotel, Historic 'A Story To Share' Hotel, Best Ambassador and Historic Castle Hotel.

Also representing Ireland in the awards was Gregans Castle Hotel, Ballyvaughan who won Gold for Top Hotel Restaurant.
