Glanbia Co-op and Glanbia Ireland will be rebranded as Tírlán from now on.

The name change is to reflect the unique characteristics of the organistaion.

The name comes from the Irish words 'Tír' meaning land, and 'lán' meaning full.

When put together the name means 'land of abundance'.

Tírlán says this is to represent the relationship between the Co-op, its people and the land they use together to farm and sustain.

Co-op shareholders will be asked to vote to approve the name change for the Co-op in the coming weeks. Tírlán will remain the largest shareholder in Glanbia plc, with a 31.9% shareholding.

As well as a new name, the company also got a new location - they are now situated at the Abbey Quarter in Kilkenny City.

Speaking at the launch of Tírlán in Kilkenny, CEO Jim Bergin, said:

As a co-operative, Tírlán is 100% farmer-owned, with 11 high-tech processing facilities, 52 agri-branches and over 2,100 employees.

It sources its dairy and grains from a network of over 6,000 farm families and currently exports to over 80 countries.
