As part of ongoing investigations in connection with the large drug seizure made at Cork Port on Friday 16th February 2024, a search was carried out by Gardaí at a premises in Waterford City on Sunday evening, 18th February.

It follows the discovery of more than half a tonne of Crystal Methamphetamine at The Port of Cork over the weekend, with a search also conducted at a retail store in Co. Kerry.

The shipment that was intercepted on Friday morning was reportedly headed for Australia, which is among the countries that consume the most Crystal Meth worldwide per capita.

According to Gardaí, the drugs would ultimately have a street value of €32.8 million in Ireland, but they would be worth up to ten times as much in Australia.

The inquiry is being led by local Gardaí in Kerry and Cork, with assistance from Customs and the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau.

No further information is available at this time relating to the search conducted in Waterford.
