Gardaí investigating spate of criminal damage incidents in Waterford

Gardaí are investigating a spate of criminal damage incidents which occurred during the past week in Waterford City.

A number of car related crimes occurred last week, with the first incident being the theft of car from outside a retail unit on the Cork Road.

This occurred on Monday October 21st October at around midday when the rear passenger door window smashed.

This vehicle was recovered the next day  in Kilmacthomas and has since been returned to its owner.

On Tuesday October 22nd, a number of cars were broken into in the city centre. The cars had their windows smashed in an attempt to steal items from the vehicles. These offences occurred at the Hyper Centre and Spring Garden Alley. There was also an unsuccessful attempt to steal one of vehicles.

A number of arrests have been made and charges have been preferred and a number of other charges are pending in relation to these offences.

Williamstown incidents 

A number of criminal damage incidents occurred in the Williamstown area of the city on Wednesday October 23rd.

The first was at the Broadcast Centre where a window was smashed sometime between approximately 8.45pm and 9.10pm.

Another incident in an adjacent location occurred on the same night when the bins and a pallet from Williamstown Community Childcare Centre were set alight. This occurred approximately 9.35pm .

Gardaí believe a group of youths moved the bins over a wall before setting them alight.

CCTV has been obtained in both cases and anyone with information is asked to contact Unit B at Waterford Community Policing Unit or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
