Former Waterford Councillor Davy Walsh dies aged 79

The death has occurred of Davy Walsh, former long standing Councillor and Alderman of Waterford Corporation.

He died today (Friday) aged 79.

The Workers' Party member was first elected to the local authority in 1979.  He served on the Council until 2014.

Davy, of Marymount, Ferrybank, was well-known for his community work - especially with the campaign for St. Patrick's Hospital in Waterford.

He was predeceased by his daughter Breffni, parents, brother and sister.

He is survived by his wife Betty, daughters Jennifer and Róisín, sons Rory, David and Jack, sons-in-law Thierry and Padraig, daughters-in-law Jane, Carina and Eva, grandchildren Luke, Mathieu, Tom, Fionn, Lucy, Cormac, Ciaran and Seb, brother Sean, sister Breda (Brown), brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours and friends.

Davy will be reposing in Power's Funeral Home Ferrybank, on Saturday 8th July from 4.15pm followed by removal at 5.30pm to The Sacred Heart Church, Ferrybank.

Davy's Requiem Mass will take place on Sunday 9th July at 11.30am, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
