Waterford City and County Council have paid out €3.5m on footpath-related claims since the beginning of 2019.
The figures were obtained under a Freedom of Information Act request by Labour Party Councillor John Pratt.
In the first three months of this year, the local authority has paid €273,000 as a result of footpath-incurred injuries.
Last year, the figure surpassed €1.1m alone.
In 2021, Waterford Council paid out €538,000 as a result of claims, while the figure was €883,000 in 2020, despite Waterford then being in the grips of the Covid-19 pandemic.
€703,000 was also paid out in 2019.
The FOI request for a breakdown by district was rejected, on account of the potential to identify claimants which may result.
