Update, Monday 9am: the stretch of road has fully reopened.
Five people have been hospitalised after a serious crash on the N25 near Ballyduff, Kilmeaden this afternoon.
The two-vehicle collision happened shortly after 4 o'clock, in the vicinity of Frank Murphy Hurleys.
The driver from one of these vehicles, a woman aged in her 40s, was taken to Waterford University Hospital.
She is currently in a serious but stable condition.
A male youth (teens) passenger was also taken to Waterford Hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
The driver from the second car, a man in his 70s, and two passengers, a man (50s) and a woman (50s) were taken to Cork and Waterford University Hospital’s, where they are all in a serious but stable condition.
The Cork based Community Air Ambulance, with two NAS Advanced Paramedics on board, were tasked to the scene at Kilmeaden and requested a second helicopter to take a patient to the Major Trauma Centre in Cork University Hospital.
An Advanced Paramedic travelled with the Coast Guard R117 helicopter to provide Advanced Life Support.
The road is currently closed with local diversions in place. A technical examination of the scene is underway.
