It's important any replacement bus service for East Waterford really meets the needs of the area.

That's the belief of Junior Minister for Transport, Hildegarde Naughton.

The Minister of State has been visiting Waterford today.

Suirway recently announced that they will be shutting down their service here after more than 100 years in operation.

Speaking to WLR News, Minister Naughton says the National Transport Authority is working on a replacement.

"What we want to make sure is, and we know this is what the NTA is looking at, making sure that service is actually fit for purpose and meets the demand of the local communities here in the area," she said.

The positive is that they have time, as the buses won't stop running until the 31st of October.

Work is ongoing in the background to find a replacement bus service for the East of the county.

The main focus is ensuring the service goes where people want it to go and that it meets the demand of the area.
