€2.8 million is to be invested in the development of piers and harbour walls in Waterford.
It's part of a €32 million investment by Minister for the Marine Charlie McConalogue under the Brexit Adjustment Local Authority Marine Infrastructure Scheme.
The scheme is designed to support to support job creation, and to upgrade, modernise and develop Ireland’s publicly owned coastal and marine infrastructure.
Waterford City & County Council have successfully applied and secured funding for seven projects in Waterford. The council will receive just under €2.4 million to deliver this €2.8 million project.
Piers and harbour walls to benefit
Passage East piers and slipway will receive €800,000 for repair and reconstruction works.
€500,000 each will be invested in Cheekpoint pier and Tramore pier for structural and repair works.
Helvick pier will receive €400,000 for repair and reconstruction works with Baile na nGall receiving €209,000.
Boatstrand pier, the popular swimming destination, will receive €192,000 to install public lighting and storm wall construction.
Dungarvan harbour will receive €208,000 for repair of the sea wall and slip, the Minister confirmed.

This is essential from a health and safety perspective as we look forward to the summer months. We are really lucky in Waterford to have such beautiful beaches and coastlines and these projects will ensure they can be enjoyed safely.
