The owners of Dungarvan restaurant, The Tannery, have won the Hall of Fame award at the Food&Wine Restaurant of the Year Awards 2022.

The awards were held in Dublin on Sunday and husband and wife team, Paul and Máire Flynn of Dungarvans beloved The Tannery, picked up the prestigious Hall of Fame prize at the ceremony, held in The Round Room at the Mansion House.

The awards in association with Rémy Martin saw 450 guests, including some of Ireland’s best chefs and restaurateurs from across the country, celebrating the best of Irish food and drink in a sold-out event hosted by Food&Wine editor Gillian Nelis.

Chef Paul Flynn and his wife and business partner Máire are an authentic Irish food success story, a couple who together have made an extraordinary success of their restaurant, townhouse and cookery school in Dungarvan since they opened their doors to customers for the first time 25 years ago, on July 1st 1997.

They opened The Tannery Restaurant in Pauls home town of Dungarvan first, followed by the stylish Tannery Townhouse in 2005, and then the elegant Tannery Cookery School, custom-designed by himself and Máire, in 2008.

“It is really rewarding to know that The Tannery remains relevant after 25 years,” says chef Paul Flynn. “It means so much to us to be part of our powerful and wonderful hospitality community, and to be part of the national Irish food discussion.

"The calibre of the judges at the Food&Wine Restaurant of the Year Awards includes the best critics in the country, so it is an honour to be given the Hall of Fame Award by them. We are genuinely delighted.”

“We are so proud of our team at The Tannery, both past and present,” said Máire Flynn at the event on Sunday.

“This Hall of Fame Award is for all of the people who have been through The Tannery doors over the last 25 years, both front and back of house, and of course our amazing customers and friends. We’re grateful for the support of our local community, our peers and the media over the past 25 years, and for the opportunity to work with such exceptional Irish suppliers and producers too.”
